DuPont is honoring nearly 400 employees in the 2009 DuPont Volunteer Recognition program.  Established in 1998, the program recognizes employees or teams of employees who devote their time and talents to improve the quality of life in their communities. On behalf of each honoree team, $1,000 is donated to the organization that received the community service.  Grants acknowledging employee contributions will be distributed to 176 non-profit organizations in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific.

Lang Deng is a volunteer for the Iowa Chinese in Agriculture. He has lectured at Ankeny, Iowa school district's Road to Beijing program, introduced Chinese New Year to over 100 pupils at various school districts and invited Duke Professor Gao to talk about how to cope with economic crisis on promoting US-China Free Trade Agreement. He has also invited Senator Charles Grassley to hold a town hall meeting to discuss trade in China. He helped to host diplomats coming to the Asian festival and hosted Vice Minister Laiwu Zhang of Ministry of Science and Technology of China and his team. All of these activities made Iowa Chinese in Agriculture (ICIA) more visible and influential in the local community and contributes more to the welfare of the community, especially in the diversity of the community.

“The work done by our employee volunteers is critically important to the vitality of the communities where we operate,” said Sylvia Banks, manager, Corporate Contributions. “These community ambassadors create an environment of trust that is an integral part of our core values.”Our employees are committed to making their communities better places to live and work,” Sylvia added. “They mentor and tutor children, deliver meals to the elderly, work with people with disabilities who engage in athletic pursuits, build homes for the homeless and are involved in the health and safety of their communities as volunteer firefighters.”

Congratulation to Lang Deng, the winner of 2009 DuPont Volunteer Recognition Program!
