The Iowa Chinese in Agriculture (ICIA), a non-profit and volunteer-based 501(c)3 organization, was established in 2006. ICIA members consist of professionals in research, education, production, and business in agriculture across Iowa. ICIA’s mission is to provide a platform to serve our local communities and to organize Chinese culture related events/activities to improve member’s after-work life (and at-work life). ICIA also to foster a favorable environment for attracting, retaining, and motivating world  class agricultural professionals to work in Iowa.

ICIA has invited Dr. Ren Wang, Director, Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), to meet our members on Wednesday, October 15, 2008.

  • 6:00 – 9:00 pm - Dinner and social time

"Father of Hybrid Rice" Professor Longping Yuan Joins Iowa Chinese in Agriculture (ICIA) Advisory Council PDF Print E-mail
Des Moines, Iowa (August 8, 2008) – Iowa Chinese in Agriculture (ICIA) is pleased to announce Professor Longping Yuan accepted ICIA invitation as ICIA Advisory Council member.

Professor Longping Yuan is recognized internationally as the "Father of hybrid rice". Hybrid rice currently accounts for half of China's rice production. He has spent the last forty years in hybrid rice research and teaching his techniques to thousands of scientists and researchers in more than 25 countries in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Professor Yuan won the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award of China in 2000, the Wolf Prize in agriculture and the World Food Prize in 2004. He is currently the Director-General of the China National Hybrid Rice R&D Center and has been appointed as Professors at several universities, including Central South University, Wuhan University, Hunan Agricultural University. He is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 2007, he was named a foreign associate of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States; this is the highest honor in American science and engineering. Community State Bank Forms Partnership with ICIA PDF Print E-mail

Des Moines, Iowa (August 7, 2008) – With a recent sponsorship contribution, Community State Bank, N.A. (CSB) has formed a unique partnership with Iowa Chinese in Agriculture (ICIA).


The sponsorship will enhance ICIA’s programs to promote networking and scientific information exchanges between agricultural professionals in the United States and China. In addition, ICIA will promote educational seminars presented by CSB to ICIA members. Such seminars will help CSB provide beneficial financial services to ICIA members in the areas of banking, mortgage, retirement planning and insurance.

Update on Donation Campaign for China Earthquake Relief PDF Print E-mail

Dear All:

We are very grateful for all donors who show their loves and cares for the earthquake victims.  As of June 2nd, the Campaign for China Earthquake Relief led by ICIA/ICLS has received $10730.50 from 43 families.  The donation was sent to China Red Cross on June 3rd.  We'll close the Relief account on July 30th and the rest of donation will be sent on July 31st.
